Everything’s bigger in Texas! From a huge canyon to a huge statue to wine with a huge award, we had a great visit to this small town near Amarillo. On Tuesday, Oct 30th we headed north a few hours to Canyon, Texas, via Tx 87 and I-27. Instead of staying at a regular campground, we decided to use a Harvest Host location for the first time since joining. Harvest Host is a network of over 650 wineries, farms, museums, and other unique locations across the USA where self-contained RVers can stay overnight for free.
Our stay was at Bar Z Winery where we met the awesome owner, Monty Dixon, tasted some great Texas wines, and enjoyed amazing scenery. We also met fellow RVer Jeff and his sweet family. Jeff entertained us with his cool glass blowing skills. We stayed for 2 days, so Sammie and Chloe got in on the fun for “Howloween at the Winery”–no wine, but lots of dog treats for them!
We couldn’t miss a visit to Palo Duro Canyon, the “grand canyon of Texas.” Even though it was pretty cold on our visit, the views were amazing. Palo Duro canyon stretches 120 miles long, ranges from 6-20 miles wide, and is more than 800 feet deep. What is really surprising is that when you drive up to the canyon area, the landscape is totally flat. Then when you reach the park and look over the edge, it’s amazing to see the huge canyon below.
We also had time to explore the town of Canyon, which was bigger than I had thought. One of the main attractions is the 47 foot tall iconic statue called Tex Randall with its size 75 boots.
How very cool! Great place for an overnight stay and love the views of canyon too..
It was so pretty! You would love the wine too, Sandi 🙂
