Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe is a town full of beautiful art, good food, and amazing views.  On Thursday, Nov 1st, we headed west to into New Mexico via I-40.  We found a lovely campground called Santa Fe Skies RV Park, which was on a plateau overlooking the city.

We were so lucky Mom and Manny were able to come from Colorado Springs to meet us there for a few days of fun and sightseeing.  At 7000 ft in elevation, the weather was beautiful during the days but got quite cold at night–luckily our motorhome has a great heater and heated floors!  We enjoyed being outdoors with all the autumn colors.

Santa Fe is a beautiful city with lots to do.  I loved the historic adobe architecture, which evolved from early Native American and Spanish influences.  We toured the New Mexico state capitol building–the only round capitol in the country.

There are several beautiful cathedrals in the historic downtown square:  the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi and the Loretto Chapel.  The story of the miraculous stairway in the Loretto Chapel is fascinating–it contains 33 steps in 2 full 360 degree turns, but has no center support nor is it held from its sides!

We also ventured into something completely different at Meow Wolf, described as a “maximalist experience that is part mystery house, part art museum, part jungle gym, and part choose your own adventure, all wrapped up in a fantastical explorable world suspended in time and space.”  I can’t explain it any better than that!

The chocolate shops in Santa Fe were amazing–especially Kakawa Chocolate House and the Art of Chcolate.  For those of you who know me well—I was in heaven!  lol   Mike and I had a tour at the Art of Chocolate and learned about the whole process:  everything from getting the beans off of the cacao tree all the way to the finished products.

Of course there were free samples and tasting of different products, plus lots to buy afterwards!  I didn’t exactly stick to my diet this week, but it was worth it 🙂

It was hard to narrow it down, but we selected some awesome chocolate truffles.  In addition to the normal chocolates, they have really unique flavors like Lava Salt Caramel, Prickly Pear with Hibiscus and Lime, Red Chili Raspberry, and Lavender Honey.  Everything we tasted was so good!

Adding New Mexico to our map!
