Our Third Year on the Road

I can’t believe we have been traveling full-time in our motorhome for over three years now!  We’ve been blessed to have visited so many amazing places throughout our beautiful country.  We especially enjoy experiencing new things and learning as we travel.  It has also been great to be able to stop and see family and friends along the way.

I just realized the other day that we have come to think of the motorhome as our home and not just an RV.  Of course, since we sold our house…it really is!  I love that our home on wheels allows us to have our own bed, pillows, and “stuff” with us wherever we go.  As we start another year on the road, here’s my annual recap of our travels.  If you are new to my blog (or maybe just missed a post), I’ve included links to each full post for more detailed information.

Part 1: January 1- May 15

After spending the holidays in San Angelo, we returned to Mount Pleasant, Texas, to ride out the winter.  Little did we know that we couldn’t escape Snowmaggedon!  As spring approached and we were able to get our Covid-19 vaccines, we decided to head out on the road.  We visited east Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Here are a few highlights of each post, but you can click the blue link to see the full story with lots more detail and pictures.

After the fun in Nashville, we headed north to Indiana for some RV appointments.  We had some servicing done on the motorhome and enjoyed the surrounding Amish country. Then we headed on to Michigan for chassis servicing and to Nebraska for Blue Ox towbar servicing.  Once the maintenance stuff was all done we were excited to head to the national parks of Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Glacier.  Here are a few highlights of each post, but you can click the blue link to see the full story with lots more detail and pictures.

Part 3: June 29 - August 8

When we left Glacier National Park, we headed west to Washington.  We visited Seattle as well as North Cascades National Park, Olympic National Park, and Mount Rainier National Park.  In Oregon we saw the Columbia River Gorge, home to amazing fresh fruit and wines.  The Northwest region has many beautiful waterfalls.  Finally we were amazed by the mighty redwood trees in California.  Here are a few highlights of each post, but you can click the blue link to see the full story with lots more detail and pictures.

Part 4: August 8 - December 31

After California, we headed east and made a stop in the lovely town of McCall Idaho.  From there we continued on into Utah where we spent a few relaxing days in Heber City.  We survived the long drive across Wyoming and finally made it to Colorado.  It was fun revisiting my alma mater in Fort Collins and then hiking up to 13,000 feet in Rocky Mountain National Park.  Our month of family time in Colorado Springs led up to our youngest daughter’s beautiful mountain wedding.  Here are a few highlights of each post, but you can click the blue link to see the full story with lots more detail and pictures.

Filling in the Gap–Idaho & Utah:  McCall fun, Mountain Home, Museum of Clean, Heber Valley Historic Railroad, Ritual Chocolate Factory

Colorful Colorado:  Fort Collins, CSU, Estes Park, Stanley Hotel, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Springs, Wedding

To finish out the year, we spent the fall back in Mount Pleasant, Texas.  We enjoy our time volunteering at NTCC and the closeness to San Angelo so we can be home for the holidays.  Even with Covid-19 still plaguing the country, we were lucky to have a good year on the road (we visited 14 states and 8 national parks).  Here’s to an even better 2022 for us all!

We've made a lot of progress in 3 years!

Wow, we enjoy seeing the photos and reading about your travel adventures. It’s almost like being there. In Sept, we flew to Kalispell MT and Glacier NP to visit our grandson who was working in forestry in that area fighting fires in nearby states as well as MT. He is currently working a ski resort at Vail CO. In May, he has a new forestry assignment in California near Sequoia. Happy trails and safe travels.

    • I’m so glad you guys were able to get to Glacier National Park this year–it was definitely one of our favorites! Very cool that your grandson is doing important work for our forests. I bet you are so proud of him.

  3. Wow, you guys went to some epic places this year and your pictures really capture just how beautiful it all was. The scenery up in Washington, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana is some of the best around IMHO and you really made the most of it all. So glad you guys are still having fun and enjoying it. Safe travels!!

    • Yes, we feel so blessed to have seen some amazing scenery this year–definitely some of my favorites. I hope your transition is going well and that you will update all of your readers once things settle down.😊

  4. You had an amazing year by the looks of it, Robin! We also went on a quick trip to Glacier National Park last year but I felt like we hadn’t seen a fourth of its beauty. Reading your post, I get so inspired to go on a long road trip to every place I go to. I’m slightly jealous of how you can fully immerse and discover every place. Thanks for sharing this!

    • Hi Dakota, Thanks for checking out my blog. I’m glad you were able to visit Glacier National Park–it was one of my favorites. I too never feel like we have time to “see it all” but we do our best. My husband always says I am trying to kill him because I tend to overschedule our days. 🤣 The great thing is that we are getting out there and seeing so much. I hope you are able to do some more traveling too!

  5. What another spectacular year of travel! I have enjoyed each and everyone of your post. Looking forward to reading about this 4th year of fun and adventure too.
