Hi, I’m Robin. I love animals, especially dogs, and being active outdoors hiking, biking, kayaking, and playing tennis. During quieter times, I like reading a good detective or spy novel and watching romantic comedies. I am always on the lookout for easy, healthy recipes that actually taste good, but I also love chocolate and ice cream—how’s that for a balance in life? Of course, one of my favorite things to do is travel, challenging myself with new places, people, and experiences. Travel adventures can help you learn more about yourself, strengthen your relationships, expand your perspective, and just appreciate all life has to offer.
My husband, Mike, and I are veterans and empty nesters who just retired from second careers to travel full time in a motor home. When we first told our friends and family what we were planning, they were either envious or thought we were crazy! We might just be a little crazy, but we also have an adventurous spirit and are ready to explore the US. Join us as we learn, laugh, and figure out retired life on the road.
We had a 5th wheel for about a year to test the waters in the camping world. Although we were still working, we found that we liked traveling and camping (or more accurately “glamping”). When we really became serious with our plan to go full-time, we traded the 5th wheel in for a class A motorhome. Over the next year we had an estate sale (click here to read), put a downsized amount of belongings into storage, sold our home (click here to read), and retired from our jobs.
So what comes next? While retiring and living in a motor home might seem like an easy change, there is still a lot to learn. Things like living in a much smaller space, cooking for two, dealing with RV maintenance, living on a smaller retired budget, dealing with pets on the road, handling health needs on the road, figuring out where to travel and what to do in each location, staying in touch with family and friends, income opportunities, getting mail and paying bills, staying fit, and the list goes on. My goal with this blog is to cover all those topics from a beginner’s perspective. So, if you’ve always wanted to travel the US or are just wondering how it all works, I hope you will journey with us as we see the country and discover a new way of life!
